New Bedford Quaker Mayor Abraham Hathaway Howland


Abraham Hathaway Howland (1802-1807)

son of Weston Howland and Abigail Hathaway. He married Mehitable Earle “Hetty” Russell. Abraham served as the first mayor of New Bedford, Massachusetts. A leading Quaker businessman of the time, he was elected shortly after the incorporation of New Bedford in 1847.
