Hattie married Francis "Frank" Henry Winch* (1860-1929) son of Captain Charles F Winch (1832) and Phoebe Marsh (1834-1894).
She grew up in Georgetown, Massachusetts Her lineage can be traced back to the Newbury settler Robert Rogers on her paternal side and the Perkins family of Ipswich on her maternal. ROGERS: Samuel, Elbridge, Samuel, Peter, JR, Peter, John, Thomas, Robert)
The couple live in Massachusetts and Middlebury, Vermont. Frank appears in the equine directories as F A Winch and in 1902 he moves his business from Vermont to Newburyport. A fire destroyed the home they were living---article from Tuesday December 24 1901.
Her love for horses began when she was just a small lass. After she married Frank, a well known trainer and driver of trotting horses, Hattie became an expert driver and a professional reinswoman.
Frank cultivated her talents and bought her two champions-Major Wonder and Gill Curry.
Within a few years, "few men could handle a fast trotter with more skill than she." Hattie broke records and by 1896 reports were she was the champion reinswoman of the country!
Hattie and Frank had two children: Stella (1885-1942) m Orin Durant Steele (1882-1950) and Robert Kenneth Winch (1899-1988) m Pauline Isabella Moore (1902-1990)
From what I gathered Hattie had suffered from a accident and a law suit was filed in 1909 against Boston and Northern railway. She won and was awarded 3,000. Her death certificate 1910 states the injury contributed to her death.
