Benjamin Chew (1722-1810) son of Samuel Chew, a physician and first Chief Justice of Delaware and Mary Galloway. Born into a prominent Quaker family--He was a legal scholar, prominent and successful Philadelphia lawyer, and chief justice of the Supreme Court of the Province of Pennsylvania and later the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A Jamestown descendant and a protegee of the Penn family. A lifelong friend of General George Washington.
