Americana: The sculpture Pumunangwet (He Who Shoots the Stars)


Clara Endicott Sears, founder of the Fruitlands Museums, commissioned Pumunangwet, He Who Shoots the Stars, which is installed next to the Native American Museum in 1931. The heroic size sculpture commemorates the Native American past and is meant to symbolized aspirations, hopes, and goals. The bronze sculpture was created by Clara Endicott Sears's cousin, Philip Sheldon Sears, and cast by the Gorham Manufacturing Company. Fruitlands Museum, 102 Prospect Hill Road, Harvard, Mass. The photo was featured in Americana Magazine, Vol. 27 (1909).
